Bottled product certification process
To register with the CVRVV, prospective members should complete and submit the form available here, and attach the documents mentioned in chapter I of the Certification manual.
The DCP must be submitted within the legal deadline, between October 1st and November 30th. After that date, the declaration will still be accepted, although failure to comply with the legal deadline constitutes an administrative offense punishable by law.
The maximum yield per hectare of vineyards intended for the production of wines and wine products entitled to IG Minho is set at 20,000 kg, with the exception of the Alvarinho grape variety, which is 10,666 kg.
In order to market their production, producers must file an annual Declaration of Wine Spirits Production (DPA).
All wine spirits producers must submit the DPA (Declaration of Wine Spirits Production) by April 30th annually or, alternatively, within a period stipulated by the CVRVV.
The spirits declared in the DPA are subject to the payment of a Production Certification Fee.
All winegrowers and producers who wish to take advantage of DO Vinho Verde or IG Minho must register their operational vineyard parcels on the Central Viticultural Register (RCV), the central database for the management of the national wine-growing assets.
They must visit the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the North (DRAPN) of the area where their vineyards are located to register their vineyard parcels and their legal status. The Vine and Wine Institute (IVV) is responsible for ensuring the conditions for updating the RCV in the Vine and Wine information system.
Based on the daily synchronization of databases, the CVRVV receives information on vineyard registrations digitally from the IVV, and applies it to the recordbooks, namely for the purpose of monitoring the yield per hectare.
Physical-chemical and sensory tests are performed at the CVRVV Laboratory, accredited by IPAC, Accreditation Certificate No. L0226.
The economic operator must request analysis by filling in the appropriate field, selecting the product type, respective analytical function and information regarding the batch to be certified (wine cellar(s), number of liters, and current account).
The set of physico-chemical and sensory tests available for each analytical function per product, as well as the respective legally acceptable values, are available for consultation in Products - Compliance rules. The economic operator may request additional tests contained in the Price List - Analytical Protocol.
For each certification request, a duly identified representative sample of the batch to be certified must be delivered to CVRVV in the volumes and packaging set out in the Certification Manual.
The Test Report is issued by the CVRVV Laboratory and posted in the appropriate field.
The physico-chemical and sensory tests are carried out within a maximum of four working days after receipt of the request. Urgent requests can be made by paying an amount set in the Price List ; urgent analyses are delivered within 48 hours, provided the request for analysis is accepted and the sample delivered by 10 a.m.. Urgent requests received after 10 a.m. will only begin to count time from the following business day.
All labeling must be assessed and approved by the CVRVV, and must comply with both the Internal Labeling Regulations and the applicable legislation.
Products entitled to DO Vinho Verde and IG Minho must be accounted for in specific, updated records of type of product and quality, known as a wine inventory , which means a record can be kept of all information regarding incoming and outgoing shipments of the product at the premises of the economic operator.
An inventory batch is created when the DCP is submitted, or whenever information regarding specific certification is needed for labeling (e.g. harvest year, subregion, grape, etc.).
Certification will be granted if all the requirements defined for the product are met: test report, labeling, and inventory batch.
A digital process is used to revise assessments and decide on the certification process. This process verifies compliance with the set of applicable requirements, immediately generating the certification document for the respective batch.
